Today I went to go pick up my other uncle, whom I never met, with another uncle.

So many family members…

We then went to go eat shabu shabu. I don’t understand what it is with this particular uncle’s kids, but his sons never ever talk to me. EVER. I don’t think they have ever spoken one word to me. BOYS.*rollseyes*

Countdown: 3 days til I leave Laos for good, 4 days til I return to the US

Last night I went karaoking!!

Lots of fun~ should have stayed at my aunt on my dad’s side place but I was too lazy to lug my clothes back and forth.

Everyone is studying for finals or working, so no one from my dad side has really been able to hang out with me.

Went to a Lao wedding today. Did not know the bride and groom…

Countdown to USA: 6 days

Just spent the past 5 minutes trying to figure out what I did on Day 7, May 18.
I ran out of internet…so I guess I lack the ability to remember what happen to me unless I save it now.

Didn’t do much since the tv was out. So no Arirang…I think I just went to pick up my outfit for the wedding. Went to go visit my uncle’s sauna again just for spicy papaya salad and meatballs that my aunt sells. My uncle bought me soymilk.

Day 6: Laos

Went to LAO-ITECC last night.

It’s just a big market with shops and stalls. My aunt bought me this nice blue jacket.

I feel bad every time they buy me something…so I try to curb my shopping enthusiasm.

Also, just got my sin ready for the wedding on the 19th.

Day 5: Laos

Day 5 in Laos…running out of internet.

Today I woke up and played on my computer most of the day.
At 6pm, I went to the market with my Aa and cousin Noud. It smelt like fish.

At 7ish, I went to go eat dinner with my uncle and his kids. Then we went to the night market and took pictures with the statue of the first king of Laos. There were also exercise machines!!

Not much to do but I just got back from my uncle’s sauna.

Am I getting whiter? Apparently saunas here are only like $10 USD.

It was almost impossible to breathe the first time I entered it.

Today I went to Khao San Rd to find a cafe where I could peacefully study. I found it at The Fabulous Cafe and Cake shop.

When I walked in, ordered iced green tea, and found a nice table in the back. I realize I need a password to access the wifi so I go up to the counter again to ask, only to have all the male workers turn to stare at me and just to answer my simple question. Flattery #1

When the guy brings me my drink, he asks me if I wanted any dessert. I said of course and proceeded to order a Chocolate Silk cake that came with vanilla gelato. When he brings me my cake, he tells me, “I just wanted to say you’re really cute!” I smile and thank him and he goes off on his merry way and I turn back to my research. Flattery #2

Later on, he comes back again to give me a free sample of one of their smoothies. I thank him and turn back to my computer, only to have him ask me what my name was. But before he goes, I ask if I could order a glass of the blueberry/lychee smoothie, which was DELICIOUS.

He comes back with my smoothie and he asks whether I’m Korean/Chinese/or something else. I tell him that I’m actually American.

Anywho, two hours into my studying…it’s getting late so I go to pay my bill and leave. As I’m walking away, maybe like 3-4 minutes outside of the cafe…someone taps me on the shoulder. I look up in surprise to see the waiter. He had left his work to come chase me down to ask for my facebook name! He tells me that he wants to get to know me better. Flattery #3

But I have a boyfriend and tell him so and he walks away without saying anything. Still, I’m super flattered that a guy would chase after me to try to get my facebook name/number. Never had that happened. Also, he never charged me for that smoothie. But now that I’ve rejected him…can I still go back to the cafe?? I wanted to make it my study place.

ALSO…I went to buy pad thai for dinner. I found a one-baht coin in my food.

In class…doing pretty much what everybody else is doing.

I just came back from Laos…and I seriously miss my family already.

My cousin Lou was joking with me asking if I was going to cry and I replied back with “Whose going to cry? You?” But as I was sitting on the plane and looking out, I really started tearing up a bit. I didn’t cry but I really could have.

Right before I left, my grandma on my mom’s side had a ‘boun’ for me. And lots of family members wrapped the white threads you see on my wrists.

It signifies my family’s blessings and well wishes. I have to keep it on my wrists for 3 days before putting it on the head of my bed.

Big Bang and Korean dramas

Today might seem like a very normal Wednesday where I have to go put on my uniform and go to class. While I AM going to do that, I am also going to being seeing BIG BANG today in Bangkok. Ecstatic can’t even describe what I am feeling right now.

Anywho, the past two days have been really fun since every night I have been going to my friend’s room and just sitting down and trying to stream Korean dramas to watch. So much fun!

Last night we finally got to finish the first and second episode of You’re Beautiful. Internet has been horrible so it took us 2 days to just finish the first two episodes while munching on Pizza Company.

Post 13: Cambodia

Just arrived back from Cambodia…

Left Bangkok around 5AM on a bus to the Poi Pet border.

Spent the first two days in Siem Reap and then took a night bus to Sihanouk Ville.

Left Sihanoukville at 7AM Sunday morning…only to arrive back in Bangkok at 9PM.

—-what a tiring weekend it has been. But Cambodia showed me a fun time.

Angkor Wat was really fun, especially all the tourists!

Fun fact about Cambodia: You can use USD but don’t expect change back in coins! Cambodia doesn’t use coins, you’ll get your change back in USD or Cambodian Riel.

Found out my test score for my class. I made a high C.

It’s really depressing since I studied hard for it but it seems like all my efforts isn’t being shown in my grades!

I don’t understand.

I don’t go out all the time and I’m not always traveling to other countries. I’m going to class and staying in Bangkok! But why is all my efforts not being shown in my grades? It’s rather disheartening.

What’s even worse is that the teacher literally called me out in front of class and told me straight up that I did bad on my first project because “oh yeah because your project was really bad”…who does that? Who literally says that to a student in class? I thought he’d at least try to be more tactful.

What is even more disappointing is that it’s my MAJOR?! How am I going to do bad in my own major? I mean, I don’t even know what I’m doing wrong any more.

Maybe—-the business school is not for me. Which I’ve always felt for a while now…but if not this, well else do I belong?

I just realized despite the HUGE stereotype that all Americans are fat lazy people who love McDonalds…why is it that we do NOT have a 24/7 McDonald’s that will DELIVER TO OUR DOORS?!

Went to the Korean Music Wave Press conference hoping that there would be like a Kpop spokesperson…sorely disappointed.

However, I got to see some Thai kids dancing to kpop and they were alright. It was slightly entertaining though worth the taxi ride there? Probably not.

But my trip was not in vain since I am now the owner of one of the tickets to the KOREAN MUSIC WAVE HERE IN BANGKOK in APRIL 7!!!!!

There’s going to be 20 K-pop stars performing. For example: TVXQ, SHINee, MBLAQ, B2ST, 2PM, 2AM, SISTAR, T-ara, miss A, G.Na, IU, Boyfriend, Teen Top, etc.

Post 11: Midterms

Just had my first midterm today in my one Thai studies class.

I’m in the business program but I’m also taking “Thailand in an International Arena” which mostly focuses on their foreign policies and ASEAN, which is definitely relevant. The test wasn’t so hard since I pay attention to class enough to take notes. It was only two essay prompts though I did struggle to remember all the facts. Hopefully I do well.

Now my business classes, I have presentation tomorrow that I’m slightly nervous about! I don’t want it to be crap! Not only that, I have two midterms next week. One of them is 60% of my grade! Can you believe that?! SIXTY PERCENT…

If I fail that test…I will fail at life.
